Profile
Dr David Orhewere led ARD UBTH through 2023, a year of national strikes by resident doctors, and through the association’s 45th anniversary in September 2023.
In office
- In May 2023 he led UBTH’s residents in NARD’s five-day warning strike, saying members had recommended discharging non-critical patients and that the strike was the only language government understood.
- From 26 July 2023 he led members in NARD’s open-ended strike over payment of the 2023 Medical Residency Training Fund and a review of the CONMESS salary structure, with patients handed over to consultants.
- At the 45th anniversary celebration in Benin City (weekend of 2–3 September 2023) he asked the Federal Government to release the circular on one-for-one replacement of clinical staff who had left, citing brain drain and heavy workloads, and to pay outstanding Residency Training Fund money.
- He led an ARD UBTH delegation to Edo State Deputy Speaker Mrs Maria Edeko to tell her about the anniversary.
Secretary General in 2021/22 before becoming President.
