We are the association of doctors in specialist training at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, Benin City, and one of the four branches that founded the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors in 1978.
A voice for resident doctors since 1978
The Association of Resident Doctors, University of Benin Teaching Hospital (ARD UBTH) brings together every doctor and dentist below the rank of consultant employed by UBTH. We speak for our members, support their training and welfare, and publish the Benin Journal of Postgraduate Medicine.

What the association does
Our constitution sets out the work. These are the four parts of it members meet most.
Advocacy
We protect the interests of resident doctors and give our view on policies and laws that affect them, from training funds and staffing to the safety of doctors at work.
Statements and newsTraining
Our Academic Secretary works with the hospital’s postgraduate coordinator on residency training, and the Education Committee runs academic activities for every department.
Residency at UBTHWelfare
We stand with members at life’s big moments, run the ARD Club House and Lounge, and hold an annual sports week before the AGM.

We publish the Benin Journal of Postgraduate Medicine, alongside the ARD UBTH Newsletter and Directory.

The Benin Journal of Postgraduate Medicine (BJPM) is the official scientific journal of ARD UBTH. It publishes peer-reviewed original research, reviews and case reports, with an emphasis on work that advances medicine and practice in the tropics.
Where we belong
Nigerian Association of Resident DoctorsThe parent body of every ARD branch in Nigeria. Our President and Secretary General sit on its National Executive Council.
University of Benin Teaching HospitalOur hospital, where members train and serve. The ARD is represented on its Medical Advisory Committee.
