President
Chairs the Executive Council and the General Assembly, signs press releases with the Secretary General, presides at press conferences, and represents the ARD on the hospital’s Medical Advisory Committee and Housing Allocation Advisory Committee.
Vice President
Assists the President and acts in the President’s absence. Chairs the Welfare Committee.
Secretary General
Handles the association’s correspondence and minutes, convenes meetings, supervises the secretariat, keeps the inventory of ARD property, and produces the newsletter.
Assistant Secretary General
Assists and stands in for the Secretary General. Serves as secretary of the Welfare Committee.
Public Relations Officer
Leads publicity of ARD UBTH and its activities, inside the hospital and, with the President, to the public.
Academic Secretary
Coordinates the association’s academic activities, liaises with the Postgraduate Coordinator on residency training, and chairs the Education Committee.
Social Secretary
Coordinates the association’s social activities and chairs the Social Committee.
Sports Secretary
Organises the association’s sport, including the annual sports week before the AGM, and keeps its sports equipment.
Club House Secretary
Runs the ARD Club House and Lounge day to day and chairs the Club House Management Committee.
Assistant Club House Secretary
Assists and stands in for the Club House Secretary. Serves as secretary of the Club House Management Committee.
Ex-Officio I
The Immediate Past President.
Ex-Officio II
The Immediate Past Secretary General.
Financial Secretary
Receives and banks all money due to the ARD, keeps the records of income, expenditure and financial members, and reports on the finances every quarter.
Ex-Officio III
The Editor of the Benin Journal of Postgraduate Medicine.
Ex-Officio IV
A member elected from the General Assembly.
Officers are elected every year at the Annual General Meeting in December and serve until the next AGM. No one may hold the same office for more than two consecutive terms.
The Electoral Committee advertises for nominations at least 14 days before the election. A nomination must be signed by the candidate and two other financial members. Campaign posters and rallies are not allowed; handbills are.
After the business session, candidates present their manifestos. Voting takes place the next day by secret ballot between 8:00 am and 3:00 pm, and the returning officer announces the results. The outgoing President swears in the President-elect, who then swears in the rest of the council.
